Enter Moose River, Maine and enter a "World of Outdoor Activities...". Throughout the entire year, Moose River offers a wide variety of outdoor endeavors for the discriminating traveler. Whether it is golf or whitewater rafting during the summer, hunting or hiking during the fall, or snowmobiling or skiing during the winter, there is always something to do in Moose River.

Don't forget a trip to Quebec City. Located only 2 1/2 hours from Jackman, explore all of the sights of a major city with the added charm of European styling. Be sure to visit the Chateau Frontenac and the Plains of Abraham, two of many must-see sites.

One of the best summertime activities is certainly whitewater rafting. Arranged by Sky Lodge, or one of several rafting companies themselves, take an exciting trip down the Kennebec River and bring back a raft load of stories and pictures. Personal guides will navigate you through such rapids as "Big Mama", "Whitewash" and "Magic Falls" with one big wave after another. Enjoy a riverside picnic lunch on the lower section and the tranquil beauty of the wilderness of the Kennebec Gorge and its towering canyon walls. Consistent water flows daily from May to September on this fourteen mile stretch, excellent for both first-time and seasoned paddlers. The suggested minimum age for the upper section is 13 while the lower is 8, when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

In addition to the Kennebec, is the Dead River run. Ride sixteen miles of almost continuous action through such rapids as "Elephant Rock" and "Popular Falls". Minimum age for this trip is 15 years old.

If you are a mountain biking enthusiast or just a beginner, enjoy a breathtaking and scenic ride along over fifty miles of marked trails in the greater Jackman/moose River area. With varying degrees of difficulty, choose between several trails such as the "Sandy Bay Loop", "Rancourt Pond", "Attean Township Logging Roads" or the "Jackman to Rockwood Trail". Enjoy a great closeness with nature as you peddle by a possible deer or moose or other abundant wildlife that's all a part of vacationing in this mountainous corner of Maine.

Sky Lodge offers the added convenience of being able to rent top-quality bikes that are serviced frequently to insure proper and safe handling. With helmets and water bottles available also, all you need is the appropriate clothing to make mountain biking a wonderful part of your stay.

If whitewater rafting is too much excitement for you, then take a leisurely, scenic canoe trip on one or more of Jackman/Moose River's many area ponds and lakes. As one of the most outstanding canoe trips in Maine, set a course on the 34 miles "Moose River Bow Trip". Almost as pristine is a six miles long paddle down the Moose River to Long Pond. As with any trip, be sure to take special precautions and check into hiring a local guide to make your trip more enjoyable and safe. Campfire permits may be obtained locally and only started at designated campsites. Inquire at various local businesses or the Jackman Chamber of Commerce for more or complete details.

For anyone who likes to surround themself with nature on its most intimate level, an afternoon or early morning hike on one of many area trails would be most rewarding. Trails range from easy to strenuous and provide a multitude of wilderness sights. Choose from such locals as Moxie Falls, Enchanted Pond, Coburn Mountain, Sally Mountain or Boundary Bald Mountain just to name a few and spend a fun-filled day with family or friends.

Inquire at the Jackman Chamber of Commerce to receive full information on directions and degrees of difficulty to make your journey fund and trouble free. Be sure to ask about proper equipment to take along and dress accordingly to the time of year that you are hiking.

Known famously for its moose, Maine and more specifically the Jackman/Moose River region may be the place for that perfect hunt. With hundreds of miles of wilderness and a bountiful of game available, set out on your own or with a guide and bring home that trophy buck.

Ride mile after mile on expertly groomed trails, over frozen brooks and past a multitude of trees weighed down with newly fallen snow. The travel area is virtually boundless as part of the Western Maine International Network covering 260 miles of scenic woodlands.

The Jackman/Moose River region is also a gateway to an extensive network with ITS 89 heading north to Canada and south to the Forks and ITS 86 heading east to Rockwood and Greenville. Trails maps are available for purchase at the Sky Lodge motel office. Have fun and ride safely.

Within Jackman itself, there is a nine-hole golf course, a recreation area with tennis, basketball and a small beach area available or take a scenic float plane ride and view the splendid Jackman/Moose River region from a breathtakingly new vantage point.
