One of the best summertime activities is certainly whitewater rafting. Let Sky Lodge arrange your adventure for you. Take an exciting trip down the Kennebec River and bring back a raft load of stories and pictures. Personal guides will navigate you through the Kennebec Gorge, with its towering canyon walls and rapids such as "Big Mama", "Whitewash" and "Magic Falls". Experience one big wave after another! Enjoy a riverside picnic lunch on the lower section, surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the wilderness. This fourteen mile stretch guarantees consistent water flows daily from May to September and is excellent for both first-time and seasoned paddlers. A suggested minimum age of ten for the upper section varies by outfitter. Call for details.
The Dead River is another whitewater trip available on selected dates throughout the season. Experience sixteen miles of almost continuous action through such rapids as "Elephant Rock" and "Poplar Falls". A suggested minimum age of 14 varies by outfitter. Call for details.
If whitewater rafting is too much excitement for you, take a leisurely, scenic canoe trip on one or more of Jackman/Moose River's many area ponds and lakes. Set a course on the 34 mile "Moose River Bow Trip", one of the most outstanding canoe trips in Maine. Almost as pristine is a six mile paddle down the Moose River to Long Pond. As with any trip, be sure to take special precautions and consider hiring a local guide to make your trip more enjoyable and safe. Campfire permits may be obtained locally and are valid for state designated campsites only. Inquire at various local businesses or the Jackman Chamber of Commerce for more details.
